Some people (me included) just choose to celebrate Halloween without being startled by jump-scares every five seconds. But that doesn’t mean we don’t love the cozy-spooky atmosphere that comes with late October. So here’s a list of my favourite spooky comedies of all time.
Enjoy, if you dare! 👻
Scooby-Doo (2002)
A chaotic group of twenty-somethings and their talking dog try to solve supernatural mysteries (emphasis on try). Expect haunted amusement parks, questionable fashion choices, and more “meddling kids” energy than your nostalgia can handle.

Hotel Transylvania (2012)
Dracula just wants a peaceful life while running his monster-friendly hotel, but things go downhill when a clueless human stumbles in and falls for his daughter. It’s heartfelt, full of dad jokes (literally), and reminds us that even monsters need a little quiet time.

Hocus Pocus (1993)
Three witch sisters return from the 1600s to cause mayhem on Halloween night, and not even a talking cat can stop them. It’s delightfully campy, full of mischief, and best enjoyed with a bowl of candy by your side.

The Addams Family (1991)
No one does “creepy but classy” quite like them. With deadpan humour, elegant gloom, and total disregard for normality, the Addamses make being spooky look effortlessly cool.

Buffy, the Vampire Slayer (1992)
Before the iconic TV show, there was this quirky, witty, original film that introduced the teen-turned-slayer we’d all come to love. It’s playful, campy, and the perfect snapshot of early ‘90s teen weirdness.

Bônus: Twilight (2008)
Not exactly Halloween material, but we’ve got vampires, werewolves, and enough brooding stares to last a lifetime. The original book just celebrated its 20th anniversary, so If you were a teenager back then, this is the perfect excuse to binge-watch the whole franchise (I’m Team Edward, by the way.)

Snacks ready? Candle lit? These spooky favourites are just the start. My full Letterboxd list is right here!
